Goodbye, Amarillo

This past weekend was full of packing fun (in case you didn't catch it, I'm being sarcastic:)). It all started when our parents arrived Thursday evening. After a quick meal at Rudy's, we returned to our cardboard palace to continue placing things into boxes, take down curtains, and decide our plan of action for the next day. Some believed that we would be completely loaded within an hour or two and have plenty of time to see the sights one last time. Unfortunately, that was NOT the case at all. As our truck pulled into the apartment complex I immediately panicked that it would not be big enough...big surprise...it wasn't! So after starting at 10 am, we finally decided at 6 pm that we would either need to get a bigger truck, leave a lot of things, or pull a trailer behind. I wasn't too fond of the idea of leaving my things behind, so we chose the trailer.

Last night of sleep in our apartment- I just love baby toes!
She seems pretty happy about movingHeaded for our last meal in Texas!
Ava talked Papaw into buying her some SkittlesYummy ribs!Eating with Granna
Matt and I were initially planning to stay our last night in the apartment and load all of the beds Saturday morning, but after our packing fiasco we decided to say goodbye to our apartment and hello to the Country Inn & Suites. BIG MISTAKE! Let me spell it out for you- Ava+sleeping in the same room with Mommy and Daddy= NO SLEEP and a call from the front desk asking us to keep it down! Matt and I were up practically all night long and with a long day of flying ahead for me and an even longer 2 days of driving ahead for Matt, we were not in the best of moods the next morning!
Saturday started with a continental breakfast, a swing by the apartment to pick up Kiski ( and heavily medicate her), and a drop off at the airport.
Goodbye, apartment! Goodbye, Amarillo! It was fun!
Our U-Haul...and trailer

My mom and I had already warned Sharon of the possibility of Ava having a "scream fest" as she boarded the plane, and lets just say, she didn't disappoint. As we boarded from the back of our PROP PLANE, Ava began her usual, "I need to go pee pee! I need to go to the bathroom! I need to go poo poo!" No she didn't, she just didn't want to get on the plane. People began laughing and commenting on how cute and funny she was...their opinions would soon change! After about 10 minutes of pleading with Ava, who, by the way, was screaming at the top of her little lungs, I managed to get her back under control. I have learned a few things about flying after Ava's little episodes...NEVER EVER make eye contact with anyone on the plane- they will just make you feel more guilty, or more angry by rolling their eyes and looking at you like you are ruining their luxurious ride in a PROP PLANE!! My motto- no eye contact, no guilt. The good news, as soon as those props started turning, I couldn't even hear Ava Ryan and I was sitting right next to her!! Unfortunately, our ride wasn't uneventful! About 30 minutes before it was time to land, the plane began shaking, dropping, and flying erratically. It didn't help that someone in the rear kept saying, "We are going to crash!" After getting my first hint of the vomit aroma, I knew we were in for some trouble. I could hear people behind me using their complimentary barf bags and one lady even vomited all over her baby and had to be covered up by the flight attendant to keep the other passengers from getting sick, too. I have to be honest, I wasn't sure if we would make it to Dallas, I have never been in a plane that was that rough, I even got out my cell phone just in case...luckily, we were able to land, albeit, crooked.
After a quick meal in Dallas, we loaded another plane. It was only 5 seats across, but it had a first class and looked huge compared to the plane we had just gotten off! This flight was smooth and completely uneventful. Ava watched Barney while Tal took a cat nap.

This plane is much better, Mommy!

After a three hour drive home, we finally arrived, EXHAUSTED and starving. Pizza. PJ's. Bed...
Sunday, our U-Haul arrived safe and sound
Since we have been here, we have unloaded the truck, gotten more familiar with our new surroundings, and had a lot of fun...
...like climbing on the fireplace...
...making gingerbread houses...
...and cooking!
Unfortunately, due to the terrential downpours we have been having, I didn't get a chance to get a picture of Matt and his Dad pulling the U-Haul trailer out of the ditch it went in when it came loose from the truck as they were returning it...but go ahead and laugh, I am sure a few passerbys got a good chuckle!
So, we are home, safe and sound. It has been raining and snowing non-stop which has been very confusing to Ava and Tal, as it doesn't rain very often in Amarillo. Hopefully, this weather will pass and I will get a chance to go to our new house and take a few pictures. Next stop... the mall to finish up Christmas shopping!

I'm so glad your trip is over and you made it safely! When will you guys be in your new house? Or are you already? We hope you have a good Christmas and enjoy not having to fly back to Amarillo when it's over.

Oh my goodness. I don't even know what to say. I did get a good chuckle thought...sorry. Hopefully you can look back and laugh at it...someday. I am jealous you are back in KY. Who knows when my stay in TX might ever end. Jed has at least 4 more years of praticing law here before we can go. Good luck with the house and enjoy the snow. I know it's a pain, but I haven't seen any in so long I'm missing it.

I'm glad you guys got home safely. I can empathize. When we left Kentucky we took our 26 foot U-Haul packed to the brim towing our Jetta on a trailer behind and drove our Montero as well... a three day journey. :( I hate moving and know it stinks. Thank heavens it's over. The only thing I'm really sad about is that we moved from Kentucky just as you moved back! We miss you guys.

You have to watch this! Parents of Miss Teen South Carolina
