Yesterday I decided that I would try a few new dishes this week for dinner. After making my menu and grocery list, I headed to the store to buy all of the ingredients. Most of the items were fairly common, but I did have a little trouble finding three things: mincemeat, Chinese 5-Spice Powder, and curry paste. Luckily, I ran into my very Asian friend, Long, who is the guru of everything Asian. He suggested that I try Dong Phuong, the local Asian grocery store. What a great idea!
So I headed East on the Blvd and arrived at Dong Phuong ready to buy some authentic Asian goodies. The minute I walked in, I heard different languages and smelled a very fishy aroma float through the air. I gathered my thoughts, straightened my shirt, and walked up to the very cute Asian girl. This is how our conversation went:
Me: (talking veeerrrry sloooowly and enunciating so that she could catch every silible) He-llo. Where wou-ld I fi-nd your cu-rry pa-ste? (To help her out I showed her the word curry paste written on my crinkled up shopping list)
Asian girl: (sounding even more American/country than me!!): Aisle 2
I WAS MORTIFIED! This girls speaks English very well and I just totally insulted her by talking to her like she was a 2 year old! I hung out in Aisle 2 until the redness that plastered itself across my face disappeared. I haven't felt so dumb in at least a week. To make matters worse, she checked me out and I didn't have enough money to pay for my two items. So after digging through my wallet in search of much needed pennies, she finally let me out the door 9 cents short and totally embarrassed!

Ha, ha! That's great! I know you feel bad, but I'm sure it happens all the time. Funny story though. :)
