...but in some cases it can be very useful. For example, if someone asks if you like the shirt they are wearing, and you don't, it is probably okay to say, "yes." I mean, if you think about it, we lie about a lot of silly things, especially when it comes to Holiday Characters and moods. Typically, when someone asks me how I am, I will say "fine", even if I am not...because, really, who wants to know all of the things that have you down on that particular day. I wouldn't tell the check-out lady at walmart, when she asks how I am, that I am a little constipated with a slight head-ache, I would just smile and say, "fine or great!" So, now that I have made myself feel better about telling little white lies, I will get to the point...
the other day I decided that I should get the H1N1 nasal mist, given that Berkeley can't get the vaccine and I am with her all day, everyday. So, I picked Ava up from preschool and my mom sat in the car with the kids while I went into the Health Dept (the only place in town that still had any) to get it. After signing in, I took a seat and watched the minutes tick by...No one else was in the waiting room when I got there, so I assumed it wouldn't take an hour to see the nurse...I was so wrong. I was sitting near the window and I kept seeing my mom get in and out of the car to help the kids, so I assumed that they were getting a little fussy waiting on me. So, I thought I would hurry the process along a little and pecked on the glass window and proceeded to ask how much longer it would be. To this question the receptionist answered, "Honey, your next." Well, I could have told you that! It wasn't my question, I didn't want to know if I was next, I wanted to know how much longer I would have to wait! So I told her that my baby was in the car needing to eat and that I was breastfeeding, so the sooner she could get me back the better. Well, my baby was in the car, and she was needing to eat, the only thing that wasn't true was that I was breastfeeding her...and, man, did that little white lie backfire. A comment that I thought would hurry the process along, ended up delaying getting the mist because the nurse had to research whether or not breastfeeding moms could take the mist...Moral of the story...even the smallest of lies can backfire and the Health Department sucks!!
